Prosecutors have filed murder charges against the man who they say started a fire that killed a 6-year-old girl in a house near Lafayette.

Tippecanoe County prosecutors filed charges of murder and arson on Thursday against 33-year-old Ryan Moynagh for the fire about 1 a.m. Nov. 9. Authorities say Katelyn Lane died at a hospital that day from third-degree burns and smoke inhalation.

The Journal & Courier and WLFI-TV report Moynagh shared the house with a friend of Lane's mother who was babysitting her. Court records say Moynagh admitted to setting papers on fire. Investigators reported finding three origin points for the fire, which left the other man unconscious in the house.

Moynagh didn't speak to reporters as he was led into court.
