Man arrested for death of his 3-month-old child
Police have arrested a man following the death of his three-month-old child.
Metro police officers were sent to an apartment in the 6800 block of Brendon Way South Drive around 1 a.m. Wednesday on the report of an unresponsive baby girl. Medics were called to the scene and they transported the child to Community North Hospital in critical condition.
The girl died a short time later.
The coroner's office later determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the child's head and left leg.
Detectives questioned the girl's father, Christopher Schafer, then arrested him for murder, neglect resulting in the death of a child and battery to a child resulting in death. Formal charges will be filed by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
