Man arrested for attempted rape of Bloomington woman
Police in Bloomington have arrested a man who allegedly broke into a woman's home while she slept and got in her bed.
Andrew Carie, 42, was charged with attempted rape, burglary and confinement, all felonies.
Police say officers were dispatched to a 30-year-old woman's home in the 1200 block of West 7th Street around 3 a.m. on a report of an intruder. The victim told officers she was sleeping when she woke to find a man lying on top of her with his hand over her mouth. The man fled after the victim screamed and pushed him away.
Officers at the scene found Carie in bushes nearby with a flashlight. He told police he had spotted the man police were looking for and tried to chase him down.
Carie was detained as officers investigated the scene, finding an open bathroom window and muddy prints on the floor below the window and in the victim's bedroom.
Carie was taken to the Bloomington Police Department for questioning and was later taken to the Monroe County Jail. His bond has been set at $100,000 surety and $1,000 cash.
Due to Carie's prior criminal history, charges of being habitual offender have also been filed, which could add 20 years to his sentence if he's convicted on the most serious charges.
