A Marion County sheriff's deputy arrested a man after seeing him beat another man in a robbery attempt at the downtown heliport.

Medics with the IU Health Lifeline Helicopter base at the heliport told a deputy working on paperwork in the parking lot about the robbery around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday. The medics witnessed 42-year-old Tonnie Hoskins allegedly beating and robbing 33-year-old Stephen Johnson in the parking lot of the heliport.

The deputy was able to apprehend Hoskins, who faces preliminary felony charges of attempted strong armed robbery with injury, disorderly conduct at an airport facility and a misdemeanor charge of battery with bodily injury.

Johnson was taken to Wishard Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
