Johnson County - A volunteer firefighter faces criminal charges for his alleged involvement in a teen sex case.

Johnson County investigators say 19-year-old Thomas Hibbs hosted a party where teens videotaped a sex act between a 15-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy, and sent it to classmates via text message. Police say Hibbs also had sex with the same 15-year-old girl.

The fallout has been fierce from the secretly-taped cell phone video that made the rounds at Indian Creek High School this week.

"It is our understanding that when law enforcement entered the school, that a mass email went out to everybody who was involved in all this, basically delete the video, the police are onto us type of thing. So it went from funny I'm sure to immediately not so funny," said Johnson County Sheriff's spokesman, Colonel Doug Cox.

Five students who were identified by police as watching and distributing the video are now in serious trouble.

In fact, the 17-year-old who police say took the explicit video and passed it around faces expulsion from school, in addition to possible juvenile charges.

"Anybody who played a part in this obviously is going to be facing some consequences in juvenile court," Cox said.

Police say two teens taped the sexual encounter at a party Saturday night, through a hole in a bedroom door at a trailer in Nineveh. Empty beer bottles and beer kegs still littered the lawn there Thursday afternoon.

But the case took another twist when investigators say they discovered Nineveh volunteer firefighter, Thomas Hibbs, hosted the party.

"We brought this young man in because some of the individuals were saying he was the one that furnished alcohol at the residence where this took place," Cox said. "He also admitted to investigators today that not only did he furnish alcohol to these children, but he also had sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old victim in this case."

Investigators say that violation plus the video that swept through the school damaged many lives. They say it's a case of technology gone too far.

"We need to start thinking about what this does to the victims in these cases and what it can do to a career for someone like this firefighter that's done something incredibly stupid," Cox said.

Hibbs faces charges of sexual misconduct with a minor, giving alcohol to a minor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is currently on inactive status with the fire department.

The Nineveh Volunteer Fire Chief says if found guilty, Hibbs will be terminated.
