Police arrested an Indianapolis man after a report of possible shots fired across the street from the Federal Courthouse.

Kailyn Smith, 20, was arrested on several preliminary charges, including criminal recklessness and resisting law enforcement in the incident. Off-duty officers working at an IndyGo bus stop across the street saw Smith fire a silver handgun into the air.

When an officer ordered Smith to stop, the suspect tucked the gun into his waistband and began running north on Meridian Street. Another officer cut Smith off with his vehicle, forcing him onto the steps of the courthouse, where he was held at gunpoint by the officer who initiated the stop.

Police were able to take Smith into custody after a brief struggle and locate the handgun. A witness says Smith fired seven shots during the incident.

No lockdown was issued at the courthouse or surrounding buildings.
