A man was arrested at a west side fast-food restaurant Sunday after police found him carrying backpacks with materials for making a methamphetamine lab.

IMPD officers were dispatched to the Burger King in the 7400 block of Rockville Road just after 11:30 a.m. for an intoxicated person.  Police arrived and found a man who was intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. He was found to be carrying illegal prescription drugs.

The man was carrying backpacks that contained ingredients for making a meth lab.  Police evacuated the restaurant and called for the fire department Hazmat team.

Firefighters arrived and determined that nothing was leaking from backpacks but placed them in a hazmat disposal barrel and transported them to the parking lot. They determined that officers, employees and customers were not exposed to anything hazardous.

The State Police meth disposal team was called in to determine the exact contents of the backpacks and to dispose of them.

The suspect is in custody for public intoxication, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug making paraphernalia.
