A federal grand jury has subpoenaed Madison County voting records after absentee ballots cast in Anderson's 4th Ward determined the winners of several races.

The Herald Bulletin reports the subpoena issued by federal prosecutors seeks several records from the May 6 primary election including all applications for absentee ballots, all submitted absentee ballots and all envelopes, documents and signature cards showing absentee voters' signatures.

The subpoena delivered to Madison County Clerk Darlene Likens on Friday requests she turn over the documents by Aug. 12.

Brian Bell, who lost a bid for the Democratic Party nomination for sheriff by 48 votes, has submitted his own request to Likens for the number of absentee ballots submitted by a city councilman, a county councilman and others.
