Madison County reservoir opponents fear plan's impact on river
Opponents of a proposed Madison County reservoir say the waterway could limit their recreation opportunities and hurt the White River.
Leesa Bevelhimer was one of several hundred residents who attended a public meeting about the reservoir plan Tuesday.
Bevelhimer says she lives along the river and enjoys outdoor activities such as kayaking. She says the plan would flood the river's most beautiful stretch and destroy wetlands and natural habitats.
The Herald Bulletin reports the Heart of the River Coalition has pledged to review and monitor the project and "advocate for a healthy White River system" and the preservation of thousands of acres of land.
The reservoir would cover 2,100 acres and could cost up to $400 million to build.
