Tuesday was an important day for the hundreds of women who have participated in the Lugar Leadership Series.

It marked the 25th anniversary of the group setup by former Senator Richard Lugar 25 years ago with the goal of encouraging the participation of women in politics.

"An organization training women not only to run for office but be involved in the process - 25 years of success here in the State of Indiana of building Republican women leaders," State Republican Party Chair Tim Berry said of the program's success.

Four years ago, you couldn't find a woman on the statewide ticket. Two years ago, there were two. This year, there are four women running for either auditor, treasurer or secretary of state.
