Local cyclist riding in honor of legendary Indianapolis athlete
A local cyclist wants to bring attention to a legendary Indianapolis athlete.
Major Taylor broke barriers in the racing world as a world champion cyclist who was also African-American.
Dan Lee is riding from Mass Avenue to the town of Mathews in Grant County, retracing the path of the Hoosier cycling legend.
"I'm a cycling fanatic and a major history buff," explained Lee, "And Major Taylor is one of the best known, and actually one of the most accomplished sports figures in Indianapolis history."
Lee biked this route on Monday because it's a path Taylor rode himself. He won a race from Mass Ave to Mathews on this day in 1895, which helped launch his incredible career.
