Eli Lilly & Co. plans to cut 100 jobs at its Indianapolis headquarters over the next three years, a company spokesperson confirmed.

Lilly says it plans to re-balance drug product manufacturing activities for several of its tablet and capsule drugs between production sites in Indianapolis, Spain, and Puerto Rico. The pharmaceutical says it's part of a larger plan to grow its insulin and biotechnology-derived products as it faces patent expirations on several drugs.

The company also says it will conduct a "network realignment" for its dry-product activities.

Lilly says employees affected by the plan will be given the chance to move to other positions within manufacturing.
