Bloomington - Toys given out as prizes by the Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington may contain lead and are being recalled.

The library is recalling toy cat and dog dolls given as prizes during its a summer reading program for children. The bendable toys are 4 inches tall. They were given out around the end of June.

The state test results show the toys have several times the maximum safety limit for lead.
The library is asking parents to return the toys to the library so that they can be properly disposed of. Children will be given replacement prizes.

State health department officials have sent a letter to the toys' Indiana distributor to urge a voluntary recall. The matter has also been referred to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
