Lemonade Day sign-up
Thousands of Indianapolis-area kids can begin signing up for Lemonade Day thanks to employees from local businesses and universities and students who stuffed 20,000 backpacks with materials for Lemonade Day at Riverside Park today. Presented by Teachers Credit Union, Ice Miller and ChaCha, Lemonade Day is a free Indianapolis-area initiative designed to teach kids how to start, own and operate their own business. Beginning March 8, Central Indiana organizations will provide the kits to kids who will sign up and use the materials inside the backpacks to learn how to start their own lemonade stand business. They all will open their lemonade stands for business on Saturday, May 18, throughout the nine-county region.
"We're thrilled to have so many wonderful community partners who aid in making Lemonade Day accessible to kids all over the Greater Indianapolis area," said local inventor and entrepreneur Scott Jones, who brought Lemonade Day to the Indianapolis area in 2010. "By promoting Lemonade Day and getting kids signed up, they are playing an important role in inspiring the next generation of Hoosier entrepreneurs."
In 2010, Lemonade Day's inaugural year in Indianapolis, more than 7,400 kids participated. Last year, the number rose to 15,000 and this year's goal is to get 20,000 kids engaged.
"The Lemonade Day initiative teaches children the importance of financial responsibility and philanthropy," said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. "This program creates young entrepreneurs who will draw from lessons and skills learned. I encourage the public to visit participants' lemonade stands on May 18."

About Lemonade Day
Lemonade Day is a national initiative. Scott Jones started Lemonade Day in Indianapolis after entrepreneur and founder Michael Holthouse approached him to spearhead the initiative. Collectively, the kids who participated in Lemonade Day last year generated more than $2.4 million in revenues on one day. The goal for 2013: 20,000 kids and $3 million!
