Lawyers to offer free hotline for tornado victims
The Indiana State Bar Association has set up a toll-free hotline for victims of this month's tornadoes to call for free legal advice.
Victims facing legal issues such as insurance claims, landlord issues or replacing legal documents can call 1-800-266-2581 to speak with an attorney. The line is staffed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., but messages can be left any time.
ISBA president C. Erik Chickedantz says the service can help ease the legal burden for victims. Lawyers from the southern Indiana firm of Wyatt Tarrant & Combs as well as from Indiana Legal Services--New Albany have agreed to work with callers.
The Clark Circuit Court in Jeffersonville also has a legal self-help center set up on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
