For the second day in a row, pepper spray prompted an evacuation at Lawrence Central High School.

About 300 students were relocated to the gym Thursday after a small amount of pepper spray was discharged in a hallway around noon in the science wing of the school.

One student was transported to the hospital; eight students were treated by the school nurse for adverse reactions to the spray.

On Wednesday, 13 students were taken to the hospital to be checked out after being exposed to pepper spray. School officials say that incident stemmed from two separate altercations.

All students injured in Wednesday's incident were examined and released. Two students involved in that scuffle were arrested and have been recommended for expulsion.

The students were held in the gym for an hour before being released back to their classrooms.

The school administration is investigating the identity of the student who discharged the pepper spray.

Additional security officers were on duty at the school Thursday. The school says it will continue to deploy those officers over the next few days.
