Underage drinking is an unfortunate reality on and around college campuses.

That can lead to trouble, but there is a law that allows underage drinkers to get help if they or their friends are in trouble.

It's called the Lifeline Law. But before students can get help, they need to know the law even exists.

"We've evolved," said State Senator Jim Merritt (R-Indianapolis). "The law has changed. And no more, 'I don't want to get my friend in trouble because they are passing out.' The split-second of changing your life forever should be a parental and not a prosecutorial moment."

Sen. Merritt has been a supporter of the Lifeline Law, and helped get it passed at the Statehouse.
