Last-minute prep today at the Indiana State Fair

Tomorrow is the day that many wait for all year — the start of the Indiana State Fair.

But before the first ride can be taken, there are some last minute things that must be done.

Safety is a number one priority, so the Indiana Department of Homeland Security will be doing inspections Thursday of the amusement rides at the fairgrounds.

And while the rides wont start up until Friday, the competitions that are really the heart of the state fair are already underway.

Competitors from all over the state bring their livestock to the fair to show off and hopefully win a ribbon.

Siblings Maranda, Micah, and Madilyn Malcolm bring their pigs to show from Allen County.

They each have favorite parts of the competition.

"Every animal has their own personality," Maranda Malcolm said. "I learned that through showing other species such as sheep this year. It really makes a difference to get to know the animal to see how they grow up with you. And learning how to expand your showmanship."
