The city of LaPorte is adding two environmentally friendly vehicles to its transit service.

The LaPorte County Herald-Argus reports the city will unveil two 15-passenger vehicles powered by propane on Thursday at the city's TransPorte building.

Money to convert the buses to propane use came in part from grants. The city will use an Indiana Department of Transportation propane fueling station to refill the vehicles.

The bus conversion is part of a broader city effort to improve the community's air quality and reduce the nation's dependence on foreign fuel.
