Lafayette Police are investigating a body found in a home on North 16th St. Wednesday morning.

Police say a neighbor was checking on a resident of the home and made the discovery. A one-year-old boy was also found in the home unharmed.

The child, who is not related to the deceased person, was taken to St. Elizabeth Central Hospital to be checked out. The Department of Child Services was contacted, and they located the boy's mother.

James Bixler, 25, of Lafayette, was arrested for murder in the case late Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators were still processing the crime scene Wednesday morning.

The Tippecanoe County coroner will release the identity of the person once family has been notified.
