Kansas State, Oregon and Notre Dame top BCS standings
Kansas State and Oregon are now on course to play for the BCS national championship. After Alabama was upset by Texas A&M, the new BCS standings have the Wildcats (.9674) first and the Ducks (.9497) second.
Notre Dame (.9396) is third, not too far behind, but most likely in need of a loss by Oregon or Kansas State to reach the title game on Jan. 7 in Miami.
As for Alabama's run at three championships in four seasons, and the Southeastern Conference's string of six straight BCS titles, both need help to continue.
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is ready to start campaigning for a spot in the BCS title game. Kelly said in his conference call with reporters on Sunday that Notre Dame's 10 wins against FBS opponents and No. 1 ranking in scoring defense make it a good pick for the Top 2.
Kelly has been saying he doesn't want to get involved in politicking for a spot in the BCS title game. But now that Alabama has lost and the Fighting Irish have moved into the top three, the temptation is apparently too difficult to resist.
Oregon was No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25, followed by Kansas State. Notre Dame was third after beating Boston College 21-6 on Saturday night.
