Judge sets change of venue hearing in Richmond Hill trial
At the end of July, a Marion County judge will consider a change of venue request for one of the suspects in the Richmond Hill neighborhood explosion.
Marion County Judge Sheila Carlisle scheduled five days of hearings for Mark Leonard.
Leonard, his girlfriend Monserrate Shirley, and his brother, Bob Leonard, are accused of plotting to blow up Shirley’s south Indianapolis home in order to get the insurance money. The November 10, 2012 explosion killed two of Shirley's neighbors, Jennifer and Dion Longworth, and damaged dozens of homes.
Attorneys for Mark Leonard filed a change of venue motion in January 2013, asking the trial be moved out of Marion County because of pretrial publicity.
The hearing on Mark’s request is scheduled to begin Monday, July 25. Hearing time is set aside each day that week. The judge canceled hearings for Shirley and Bob that were scheduled that week as well.
The three suspects will each have individual trials. Mark is scheduled to be tried first, followed by Shirley and Bob. No trial date is set, but his Mark’s attorneys have said they could be ready in 2015.
