John Dillinger Museum moving to Crown Point
The John Dillinger Museum is moving from the Indiana Welcome Center along Interstate 94 to downtown Crown Point.
South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority President Speros Batistatos says the display at the welcome center will close Tuesday so the contents can be moved to the Old Lake County Courthouse. He says Crown Point is a better site for the museum.
Dillinger broke out of the Lake County Jail in Crown Point while awaiting trial in the killing of an East Chicago policeman in 1934.
Batistatos says the closing of the museum comes on the 80th anniversary of Dillinger being fatally shot by federal agents outside Chicago's Biograph Theater. He says the new museum is scheduled to open on March 3, the anniversary of him breaking out of jail.
