Jay County man convicted for shooting home intruder
A jury deliberated for just about an hour Thursday before deciding a Jay County man committed a crime when he shot a man he said broke into his garage.
The Dunkirk homeowner was convicted of criminal recklessness resulting in serious bodily injury for the April shooting. David McLaughlin said he was acting in self-defense when he shot the intruder, but prosecutors said he shot him as the man ran away into a nearby alley.
David Bailey was shot in the back of the arm. He is charged with burglary for the break-in at McLaughlin's home.
