IUPUI women's coach Parkinson signs contract extension

Austin Parkinson signed a three-year extension as head coach of the IUPUI women's basketball team.

Parkinson, who played at Purdue, led the Jaguars to a 20-12 record last year, the first 20-win season for IUPUI since 1990-91. Ten players from last year's team return for next season.

Parkinson has coached the Jaguars for three seasons.

"In a short amount of time, Austin has elevated our women's basketball program and created a positive culture that we want to see continue," IUPUI Director of Athletics Mike Moore said Thursday. "Austin is a perfect fit for IUPUI and we are excited about the future of our women's basketball program."

The contract extension will keep Parkinson at the school through the 2017-18 season.

"IUPUI is a special place and a University on the rise. Our coaches and players are excited to build on the momentum from the last couple of years and look forward to continuing the pursuit of a Summit League Championship."
