IUPUI students heading to Swaziland
A group of local college students are getting ready to embark on a life-changing -- and lifesaving -- journey across the globe.
Ten IUPUI honors students are heading to the southern African nation of Swaziland. They'll be there for three weeks taking classes and volunteering at a hospital as part of a study abroad program.
It's an opportunity for them to not only practice what they've learned in class, but also make a difference in a community in need.
"We think it's going to be a great opportunity for students to learn, and it'll be a great opportunity to use some of the skills that they've learned here," said program director Dawn Whitehead. "And this is not the kind of program where students are going and doing things that they're not qualified to do. These are students who have been well prepared and trained for this activity."
The students leave next Friday and will return in mid-July.
