IUPUI's campus was placed on alert for about an hour and a half Friday night after an armed robbery nearby.

According to a statement on IUPUI's safety, security & preparedness website, an armed robbery was reported around 11:00 near Riley Hospital on Riley Hospital Drive. The suspect displayed a hand gun and demanded cash. He took the victim's purse and ran away to the south. The victim was not injured.

At last check, the exact whereabouts of that gunman were unknown.

Authorities issued an alert on their official Twitter feed as well as through the campus security alert system to the campus community around 11:45 p.m. saying that an "armed person" was on campus. Anyone on campus was advised to take shelter immediately and lock the door until law enforcement said otherwise. Anyone off campus was advised to stay away.

The "all clear" was sounded on campus around 1:15 a.m. Campus security said that the suspect was still at large at that time, but they had reason to believe he was no longer on campus.
