The Filipino communities in Bloomington and at Indiana University are planning two fundraisers for victims of the devastating typhoon that struck the Philippines.

Filipino students from IU's Jacobs School of Music and members of Bloomington's Filipino community will perform a benefit concert Sunday at St. Paul Catholic Center.

Proceeds from that concert and a silent auction will go to the American Red Cross in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross to aid victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which ravaged the eastern Philippines last week, killing thousands.

A fundraiser also will be held next Wednesday at the Indiana Memorial Union to raise money for the typhoon's victims.

President Barack Obama urged Americans Wednesday to support Philippine relief efforts, saying "even small contributions can make a big difference and help save lives."
