A 19 year-old IU student is accused of stealing a cat from the Bloomington Animal Shelter, then torturing and killing the animal.

Chris Gugliuzza is facing felony charges of theft and animal torture.  Police say he stole a cat from the shelter on Monday and when officers questioned him, he said the cat ran away.

But a friend of Gugliuzza went to police and said she saw him throw the cat against a wall, strangle it, throw it into the woods and hit it with a rock. She also told police that he told her other cats died in his care over the past two months.

Gugliuzza denied harming any of the cats and claimed one died after falling down stairs.
