IU football player released from Florida hospital
The IU football player who survived a near-drowning in Florida over Spring Break is out of the hospital and heading home to Indiana.
Wide receiver Isaac Griffith got caught in a rip current near Sarasota last Monday. The 19-year-old was in respiratory failure when he got to the emergency room and was in a drug-induced coma for days.
But he improved at a remarkable pace. Isaac's father posted a photo with his son on Twitter Sunday as the teen was discharged from the hospital. He said they're driving back to Indiana because of Isaac's injuries but that they're incredibly thankful for how far he's come.
"I've never seen a miracle with my own two eyes, but what I experienced with my son, happened over the past five or six days is nothing short of remarkable," Shannon Griffith said Sunday in a phone interview with Eyewitness News.
For the first time since his accident, Isaac himself tweeted Sunday afternoon.
He wrote, "Nothin more to say except I'm blessed. Indiana I'm on my way home today. I can't thank everyone for there support in these past few days for me and my family I can't say enough how grateful I am. God has a plan for everything."
Isaac is expected to make a full recovery.
