An adjunct professor died during a class Monday at Indiana University.

The Indiana Daily Student reported Thomas Battle, 66, collapsed during an 8 a.m. class. Medics tried to revive Battle at the scene before transporting him to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Idalene Kesner, interim dean of the Kelley School of Business, told the student newspaper Battle had taught as an adjunct professor of finance since 1983.

"It's just a terribly sad thing," Mark Land, associate vice president for university communications, told the Daily Student. "He taught at the Kelley School for quite a while, and he was an expert in real estate education."

Counselors will be available to students in the class during their class period Wednesday morning.

The cause of Battle's death has not yet been determined.
