Indy's Josh Kaufman loses battle, stays alive on The Voice

Minutes after losing his second-round battle with teammate Delvin Choice, Indianapolis singer Josh Kaufman found himself on a new team and moving on.

Kaufman and Choice sang a rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" in the battle. The other coaches seemed to back Choice.

"Vocally, this was the performance of the day by far," said Usher.

"You guys killed it," said Shakira.

After an agonizing decision, coach Adam Levine made his pick.

"I thought it was flawless," Levine said of the duo. "Either way, regardless of what choice I make, I lose. I lose a potential winner of this thing."

He picked Choice, but that wasn't the end of Kaufman's run on the hit musical competition.

He was quickly stolen by Usher, before Carson Daly could even finish a sentence reminding them of the steal option.

"You got a good one man, take care of that boy," Levine told Usher at the end of the show.

Usher, who later said he was going to take Choice if Levine had picked Kaufman in the battle, quickly started to look ahead with his new star.

"That was one of the most incredible vocal performances of the competition and I feel that we can go all the way to the end, man," Usher said. "Josh is an asset to my team. I'm really invested in who he is. I want to get to know more about him. I want to tell his story. I want people to fall in love with Josh."

"I knew it was going to be tough and I could see it going either way. Once Adam chose him, I was just hoping for whoever would take me," Kaufman said. "Usher's great. I couldn't be happier."

He was greeted backstage by his mother and sister, who watched the performance.
