An Indianapolis woman died after being hit by a car on I-65 in northern Indiana Sunday night.

Police say Betty Rush, 66, walked out in front of traffic at around 9:10 pm near the Demotte/Roselawn exit. According to police, she walked into the right lane from the outer shoulder onto I-65 northbound.

A 2013 Hyundai couldn't avoid hitting Rush, striking her with the front passenger side. Rush was then struck by a Freightliner semi tractor, and police say she was struck by several more vehicles.

Rush was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jasper County Coroner. Her family has been notified. Her car was later found at a local truck stop.

The right lane of I-65 was closed until around 3:00 am until the scene was processed by police.

No one else was injured.
