Indianapolis woman alarmed after driveway attack
An Indianapolis woman has a warning for residents to stay alert - even in your own driveway.
Robbers caught her off guard and punched her in the face. But she's not the only person who's recently come under attack.
Syrena, who only wanted to be identified by her first name, took us to her car where she suffered a surprise attack by someone begging to use her cell phone.
"Came over here and said, 'Can you roll down your window?' He was yelling to me, 'I need to call my mom. Could roll down your window?'" Syrena said.
But the cell phone request was just a ploy to let her guard down.
Suddenly, outside her home of ten years, she became a victim.
"His friend came from behind my car over there and came running and punched me in the face right there with my window rolled down. Just punched me in the side of my face and his friend took off with my phone," she said.
As Indianapolis Metro Police add more officers to the force, they want you to be cautious about your surroundings with hope of reducing the number crime scenes. But in the past two weeks more than a half dozen people at home have been caught off guard by robbers.
Syrena's attackers also stole her sense of security.
"It happened in broad daylight and that's what scares me the most, and people saw it and didn't step up and say anything. So therefore I don't come out of my house alone. I wait for my husband," she said.
Now she hopes someone can help police find her attackers so no one else gets caught off guard.
"Step up, make a difference. You have to step up and stop it. You have to stop these people from doing what they are doing," she said. "I was lucky. Someone else may not be so lucky."
In many of the driveway attacks, the robbers used guns to scare their victim. Syrena did not get seriously hurt despite getting punched in the face.
