Indianapolis student to compete in chemistry contest

A middle school student from Indianapolis will compete in a national competition designed to test young people's knowledge of chemistry.

Justin Kay will participate in the You Be The Chemist Challenge in Philadelphia on June 23. Justin is a seventh-grader from Chapel Hill 7th and 8th Grade Center.

He competed against 23 other students in fifth to eighth grades to win the state championship.

The competition is designed to test middle school students' knowledge of chemistry, science, and laboratory safety.

The top four winners will receive scholarships totaling $15,000 to help fund their future education.

The competition is sponsored by the Chemical Educational Foundation of Arlington, Virginia, which works with industry to improve opportunities in science education.
