Indianapolis professor helps identify bodies

A University of Indianapolis professor and four graduate students are working to try to identify bodies recovered near the Texas-Mexico border.

Professor Krista Latham sees her job as more than just science. She tells The Indianapolis Star it's also human rights. Latham and the four graduate students spent a week at a rural Texas cemetery last month helping exhume 63 bodies of unidentified migrants buried there.

Latham says they treated each individual as an open forensic case. Now that the bodies have been exhumed, scientists will try to learn as much as they can about them. Then researchers will see if they can match any of the missing person reports. Latham says the hope is some of the bodies will be identified.
