Indianapolis mayor focusing on stopping city's gun violence
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said Tuesday he wants to focus on stopping the escalation of gun violence in the city.
He said he wants to increase sentences for anyone who uses a gun while committing a crime.
"Jail time is a good thing. I'm very serious about this," said Mayor Ballard. "People who use a gun need to go away for a long time. I mean a long time. I said at the statehouse a generation. I'm very serious about that....I think police are really getting tired of it and it scares people in the city. We have to do something. We have to get stronger about it."
The Indiana legislature did pass sentence enhancements last year. The Mayor said those enhancements now need to be applied in the courts.
