A 34-year-old Indianapolis man was killed early Thursday morning on I-70.

It happened at around 3:20 am just east of Emerson Ave. in the westbound lanes. Indiana State Police say a Jeep Laredo made a sudden lane change into the path of a tractor trailer. The semi struck the Jeep in the driver's door and both vehicles came to a stop against the concrete barrier wall.

Both drivers were taken to Eskenazi Hospital. William Nichols, 34, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The semi driver had no physical injuries but was checked out by medics.

It's believed Nichols may have had some sort of medical event occur just before the crash. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a contributing factor.

The left three lanes were restricted for two and a half hours.
