A 22-year-old Indianapolis man is under arrest in connection with a Saturday morning bank robbery in Greenwood.

Police arrested German Adalberto Lazo on a Class B felony charge of robbery. Lazo is currently being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

Greenwood Police were called to the Bloomfield State Bank on Main Street just before 10:00 am Saturday morning. Witnesses told officers that a man walked into the bank wearing a dark gray hooded jacket, black gloves, a medical style mask and brandishing what appeared to be a black semi-automatic pistol.

The man approached a teller while holding the pistol in his right hand. He rested his right hand on the counter as he told the teller in broken English, "Give me the money, please."

Both tellers placed their cash trays on the counter and the suspect took money from the trays. He stuffed the cash into his pockets before fleeing from the bank.

After speaking with bystanders, Greenwood Police officers set up a perimeter and quickly found a man matching the suspect's description walking on Country Club Drive south of Main Street. That's two blocks east of the bank.

The man was taken into custody without incident. Police found a large amount of cash in his pockets.

Officers recovered a black BB pistol in a yard west of the bank. All but $2 of the money taken from the bank was recovered.

Lazo told police officers he was out of work and needed money. Police say he confessed to robbing the bank.
