A firefighter was hurt when he slipped and fell while fighting a fire on the northwest side of Indianapolis on Thursday morning. His injury was minor.

Firefighters were called out to the home at 1022 Udell Street at 2:44 PM. They found heavy fire coming from the home. It took 45 minutes to get the fire under control. The house is a total loss.

The home was vacant. The two homes on either side of that fire had to be evacuated because there was a fear the fire could spread.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Also, fire crews believe lightning caused a fire at another home around the same time. The second fire was on the northeast side of Indianapolis on Roxbury Road near 56th and Arlington. The three people inside the home were able to make it out safely.
