A Muncie woman has been sentenced to 87 years in prison for the beating death of her 5-year-old Haitian cousin and mistreatment of her own siblings.

A Delaware Circuit Court judge sentenced 30-year-old Charlene Tabb on Wednesday in the June 2013 killing of Marie Pierre.

Chief Trial Deputy Prosecutor Eric Hoffman said during the hearing that Tabb behaved like a "rabid, blood-thirsty animal."

The Star Press reports a jury found Tabb guilty in May of murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death in Pierre's slaying.

Tabb was also convicted of five counts of battery with a deadly weapon and three counts of neglect of a dependent, stemming from her abuse of her siblings, who were ages 11, 14 and 16 at the time of their mistreatment.
