Indiana psychologist loses license over fraud

A former southeastern Indiana psychologist has surrendered her state license after admitting she fraudulently billed the Medicaid program for patient therapy she never provided.

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller says the 70-year-old Medea Woods of Rising Sun also was sentenced to 7½ years of probation and ordered to repay $300,000 after pleading guilty Friday to charges of Medicaid fraud and theft in Jefferson Circuit Court in Madison.

An investigation by the state's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit found that Woods between 2002 and 2007 billed Medicaid more frequently than the patients reported receiving services. Investigators also found Woods billed for "therapy" that involved patients riding horses or cleaning stables.

Woods practiced at Burnham Woods Counseling North in Madison and from her home in Rising Sun.
