Indiana primary quieter than 2012 Senate contest
With no statewide race on Tuesday's ballot and few congressional contests expected to be close, the 2014 primary season has been barely noticed compared two years ago when tea-party-backed state Treasurer Richard Mourdock defeated longtime U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar in the GOP primary. Mourdock lost to Democrat Joe Donnelly in the November general election.
Instead, the primary fights this year have been largely localized.
Republican Reps. Rebecca Kubacki of Syracuse, Kathy Heuer of Columbia City and Casey Cox of Fort Wayne all faced steep primary challenges because of votes keeping a proposed gay marriage ban off the November ballot.
