Indiana officials: Guns not cause of school shootings

Legislators in Indiana say it's important to look at the underlying causes of the deadly school shooting in Connecticut instead of enacting laws that punish gun owners.

Gov.-elect Mike Pence said in a statement Monday that he would order a "comprehensive evaluation of school security measures" after he takes office.

But some conservative legislators and activists say the real issue is keeping guns out of the hands of mentally ill people.

Indianapolis attorney Guy Relford has filed lawsuits to make sure local governments and employers comply with state laws that allow people to carry guns in most public places or keep them in their cars at work.

Relford says the state needs to spend more on mental health care, not take guns away from law-abiding citizens.
