Indiana high school graduation rate increases slightly
Indiana's high school graduation rate improved slightly over the past year.
The Indiana Department of Education released high school graduation rate data Monday.
Statewide, the Indiana graduation rate in 2012 was 88.38 percent, up from 86.61 percent in 2011.
The federal rate was 87 percent. (Because the federal rate exempts fewer students from the cohort, the federal graduation rate is lower than the Indiana rate.)
The difference in the two numbers is explained by the Indiana graduation rate being calculated according to Indiana law and the federal rate calculated pursuant to federal requirements.
Despite previous requirements that Indiana report a federal rate, this is the first time Indiana has reported the federal rate.
