Indiana band donates marching money to tornado victims

A marching band from an eastern Indiana high school is donating all its competitive winnings to help its counterparts at a school 120 miles away that lost equipment during a spring tornado outbreak.

After seeing the extent of the damage at Henryville High School on the Internet hours after the building was hit by a tornado on March 2, Lincoln High School band director Catherine Ray decided to do something to help. Ray got permission for the Marching Eagles to donate all of their prize money from band competitions this year to the Henryville Golden Band.

The Cambridge City band has acquired about $2,300 in prize money from competitions and private donations.

The Connersville News-Examiner reports both bands were set to participate in a parade Sunday in Cambridge City.
