Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating an accident that sent an officer to the hospital Thursday morning after his patrol car was struck from behind. That officer was waiting at a red stop light.

Emergency crews were dispatched to Kentucky Avenue near the I-465 ramp around 3 a.m. for the report of a personal injury accident with possible entrapment. When they arrived and found an IMPD patrol car had been rear ended by a silver car.  Police say the driver of that silver vehicle may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The officer was sitting up and talking when he was transported to Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Two people in the silver car were also taken to a local hospital, but no word yet on their condition.
