IMPD officer injured in accident
Indianapolis Metro Police are investigating a personal injury accident that involves one of its own officers.
Officials say an officer and a prisoner were in a patrol car when it was struck by another vehicle early Saturday morning.
The incident happened about 3:37 a.m. in the downtown area at Pine Street and Michigan Street.
The officer was taken to a local hospital. Officials who spoke with Eyewitness News say the injuries were minor.
Officials said the prisoner also suffered minor injuries but it was unclear if the prisoner was transported to the hospital.
The person who hit the officer fled the scene on foot. Police looked for the suspect for more than hour in the area of Michigan Street and Dorman Avenue. Just after 5 a.m. officials said the person had been caught.
