IMPD makes arrest in deadly Aug. 20 shooting
Metro Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly shooting at a northwest side apartment complex Tuesday.
Indianapolis Metro Police detectives arrested 34-year-old Cortez Jones of Indianapolis for the murder of Anthony Kimmons and the attempted murder of Reginald Fagan.
Cortez faces preliminary charges of with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO) will review the probable cause affidavit and make the final charging decisions.
Cortez was also arrested for a parole violation warrant related to a previous robbery conviction.
It happened at the Aspen Village apartment complex in the 3500 block of Kebil Drive on Tuesday afternoon. That's near 34th Street and a few streets from Georgetown Road.
The victim, later identified as Anthony Kimmons, was taken to Wishard Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
According to police, another man, Anthony Kimmons, ran away from the shooting incident and jumped into a nearby retention pond. Residents in the apartment complex saw he was struggling to swim and jumped in to save him. He was also taken to Wishard Hospital in serious condition with water in his lungs. He was not shot.
