IMPD investigating body found in west side apartment
Metro Police found a body in a west Indianapolis apartment late Wednesday night, and have launched a death investigation.
The body, which has not been identified, was found in an apartment complex in the 3400 block of Shelbourne Circle, near W. 38th Street and Guion Road.
The Marion County Coroner identified the body as that of a man on Thursday, but the cause and manner of death are still pending.
Indianapolis Fire Department investigators were also called to the scene.
Just after 8:00 p.m., an IMPD Missing Person Detective responded to the Barney Lake Apartments because management had noticed a peculiar odor coming from an apartment building that had recently been involved in a fire.
A detective working an active missing person case in the area responded and found the human remains. The detective then requested the assistance of IMPD's Homicide Unit.
Detectives with both the Homicide and Arson Units are investigating the circumstances, but have yet to establish any connection between the earlier fire and the remains. Investigators are reviewing the evidence at the scene, and the Marion County Crime Lab is processing the scene for evidence.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call IMPD Homicide at 317.327.3475 or callers may call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 317.262.TIPS (8477). Callers can also text "INDYCS" plus tip information to 274627.
